WAAAW
WAAAW are a French and Belgian super duo formed of directors Jack Antoine Charlot and Sidney Van Wichelen. Together, their respective backgrounds in animation and live action combine to merge real and virtual worlds to mesmerising effect.
Brought together through a shared passion for finding the human emotion in the visuals they craft, WAAAW strive to make the viewer feel. Be that via humour, gravitas, tension or pure jaw-dropping, “what did I just watch?” They’ll get there via a unique blend of “unreal magic”. Mixing grounded, real-world imagery with high-end visual effects–not the loud kind– the clever, precise kind: their aim is always sharp, bold and tasteful.
What’s more, WAAAW is a palindrome, a word that reads the same backwards as forwards: to them, it means just as easily creating a live action film with incredible CGI, as making a CGI film that feels as emotive as real-world action. It’s a formula that delivers, and so far the duo have crafted work for Adidas, Swatch, McDonalds and ASUS as well as two award-winning music videos for SCARR, and between them, have garnered a host of Vimeo staff picks, D&AD pencils, Cannes Lions Gran Prix awards and a UKMVA.
